Community Wide Plan 3.0- January 2016 Update

It’s hard to believe the Community Wide Plan 3.0 was released in October of 2013. The community has accomplished so much in the past two years and are collectively working to continue the momentum. On January 19, the Domestic Violence Network updated the community on the work that has been accomplished in the past six months and we are pleased to report two very important projects were announced.

A Place for Everyone

In 2013, The Julian Center recognized the need for service providers to be more inclusive of the LGBTQ+ community and formed the Service Equality Task Force (SET) comprised of many different social service organizations. The goal is to ensure that agencies have specialized domestic violence and sexual assault training in responding to individuals who identify as LGBTQ+ and that their policies truly reflect inclusion. SET created an endorsement program facilitated by the Domestic Violence Network. To date, 10 agencies have completed the training and received the endorsement. DVN worked with Open for Service to create a similar sticker for agencies to place in their window indicating that they have received training.

the kINDness collective

For the majority of 2015, Playworks Indiana, Social Health Association of Indiana and the Domestic Violence Network have developed a comprehensive healthy relationship education program for youth grades k-12. Building upon each agencies existing programs, the kINDness collective will seamlessly provide common language to Marion County youth on healthy relationships and educate teens on how to recognize and respond to unhealthy relationships. By collectively working together, we will be empowered to holistically address unhealthy relationships in our community. We are so excited to announce that we will be piloting the kINDness collective in Irvington schools beginning in the spring 2016.
