A Farewell Letter to Ms. Baker

Dear Ms. Baker,

As I walked through the halls to Ms. Cooksey’s class on Monday, I missed rushing into your office to say, “Hello!”, and seeing that warm smile you gave me and all the students with whom you worked.  I am so happy for your new adventure at IU Health, and I am looking forward to hearing about all the fun you will get into.  But, I want you to know how much your presence will be missed at Crispus Attucks.

I most admire the fortitude that you lead with on a daily basis. Girl, you get things done! And, without your willingness to step out of the boundaries a bit, the No More Club would not be what it is today.  You provided the student leaders a space to be themselves and to grow into amazing world changers.  Some of my favorite moments with you and the student leaders were when the students were able to just let go.  The students felt comfortable enough with you to talk about their problems and share their stories.  It was beautiful to see your office evolve into a safe place for the students, and I will miss those moments.

I will also miss your mentorship.  As a fellow social worker, I look up to you immensely.  I relished the days I was able to sit with you in your office and talk.  I was able to learn about your life’s work and about you, and that meant a lot to me.  I will carry those moments with me as I continue my social work journey, and I am thankful for all the time you spent with me.

I will end with a promise to you and the student leaders of the No More Club.  I promise to lead with fortitude, as my dear predecessor did, and I promise to never give up on the mission of the No More Club.  You and the student leaders have made tremendous change at Crispus Attucks, and I am proud every day that I have been a part of such an amazing club.  THANK YOU for all you have done for the students at Crispus Attucks, and for me.

I miss you already.

Cheers, Ms. Baker!

Love,

Lindsay
