Join DVN as we host Gretta Gardner of Ujima: The National Center on Violence Against Women in the Black Community, for Supporting Our Sisters Through Policy, Practice, and Prayer: The Plight of Black Women. This workshop will explore the challenges and barriers Black survivors experience when accessing services and justice from the criminal and civil legal system. Internal barriers and external barriers for Black survivors have real consequences on their safety, autonomy, and self-reliance; attendees will discuss solutions and strategies that may facilitate help seeking by Black survivors. This session is designed for social workers, advocates, survivors, service providers, mental and behavioral health workers, law enforcement, educators, faith leaders, students, and everyone in between. This event is a part of our current Community Wide Plan, Equity: listening to the truth, amplifying voices, changing systems, as we explore barriers and gaps in services, when working with Black and African American women.
