GPS Monitoring of Domestic Violence Cases: A Multi-Site Study
Wednesday, April 27, 2016 / 1:30-3:00 Central Time
Presented by: Dr. Edna Erez, Department of Criminology, Law, and Justice University of Illinois at Chicago
Content: Global Positioning System technology is now ubiquitous in criminal justice – but when is it the right tool for managing domestic offenders and enforcing no contact court orders? Victim/survivors especially need to understand both advantages and limitations of the technology. Dr. Edna Erez and her team looked in depth at several sites that employed the technology in the post arrest/predisposition period to understand how well GPS is serving victim safety, its effect on alleged abusers, and in what settings practitioners and policy-makers can expect to benefit from their investment in the technology.
