Showing Hope 2016
On Friday, May 6, 2016 from 6-9 p.m., DVN will host “Showing Hope,” a reception and silent auction at The Artspace at the Athenaeum with artwork displayed and available for sale to the public. We chose this name for the exhibition because we believe that art has the power to inspire hope in individuals. We encourage you to join us for this inspiring evening!
“Showing Hope” explores the theme of domestic violence. The goal for the curated, group show is to highlight issues raised by the theme as well as instill hope in the face of violence. The exhibit will feature select work from local artists as well as compelling pieces created in both private and art therapy sessions by survivors of violence. The show is intended to create awareness of issues surrounding domestic violence.
Artists were invited to submit work on the theme of domestic violence from any perspective (individuals, children, communal) at any phase of the experience for this show. Some of the artwork will be offered For Sale, and DVN respectfully asks the artist to donate 50% of the proceeds to DVN’s Emergency Fund, which directly supports victims and survivors of domestic violence with emergency transportation and housing needs.
The Emergency Funds assistance includes, but not limited to:
- Relocation
- Car repairs
- Gas cards
- Bus passes
- Utilities
- Rent/Deposits
“The money I received from DVN payed my rent. Without it, I would have been evicted and my children and I would have been homeless.”
“This funding allowed me to keep working even though my vehicle was in need of repairs that I couldn’t afford. Without it, I would have lost my job and not been able to support my children.”
