Economic Security for Survivors Project
I recently viewed a training webinar entitled, “In the Courts: Addressing Safety and Economic Security for Victims of Violence Against Women.” This training was hosted by an organization called Wider Opportunities for Women (WOW), based out of Washington, D.C. WOW has been around since 1964 and their mission is to promote economic security and equality of opportunity for women, families, and elders. Recognizing the link between safety and economic security for survivors of domestic violence, WOW began a project called Economic Security for Survivors in 2010. This project promotes the integration of strategies that foster economic security into the programs and policies that support the safety and well-being of survivors. They provide education, training and technical assistance to a variety of agencies including transitional housing programs, direct service providers and state and local governments. WOW will work with state and local governments in the implementation of programs funded by their STOP grant money as well. WOW has detailed handbooks which address economic security for survivors.
