Amanda Wyneken, You Are The Network!

october-blog

This series highlights individuals who are passionate about the fight against domestic violence.

We consider any person dedicated to ending domestic violence in Central Indiana and beyond part of The Network. This could include people who work directly with victims, survivors or perpetrators of domestic violence. It could be a person who was touched by domestic violence, or it could simply be a person who is passionate about the cause and demonstrates this through his or her actions and beliefs.

Q&A with Amanda Wyneken:

Amanda Wyneken is energetic, kind, and is a great resource for the young people in our community.  Our Youth Program Manager and Amanda work closely to touch as many young people’s lives as possible, and they have tons of fun doing it.  Without further ado, let’s learn more about the amazing Amanda…

What do you do?

I am a domestic violence advocate, and my focus is community education. I work mostly with youth because they rule, but I tolerate adults as well. My goal is to educate about teen dating violence and domestic violence in hopes to prevent the cycle of abuse from beginning.  I am also the volunteer coordinator for Families First.  I love my job!!!

Why do you enjoy what you do?

I am passionate about prevention of violence, and genuinely enjoy working with youth. It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it. I love that I come to work everyday surrounded by people who care about others and the impact they are making on this world! It’s an inspiring atmosphere, and pushes me to grow!

What’s your favorite hobby?

Besides eating….baking. I love to bake. It’s a hobby my Grandma instilled in me when I was a little girl.

What’s your favorite quote or mantra?

“Be the change you wish to see in the world.” -Gandhi

How long have you been a DVN advocate?

Officially, since 2015. I began working with DVN since officially becoming an advocate for Families First.

How has being a DVN advocate helped you in your career?

Working with DVN has given me the opportunity to meet many colleagues and friends in the field. We’re able to share ideas and work together in servicing the community, in a way that we may not have otherwise had the opportunity to! Also, Lindsay is awesome.

Thank you, Amanda, for your work to end domestic violence in our community.  We appreciate YOU.  Cheers!
