September 15, 2016

It is estimated that 1 in 6 males will be a victim of sexual abuse/assault before the age of 18. As is common with sexual assualt statistics, this number is likely to be low.  Although males are recognized as being victims of this heinous crime, conversations and services primarily focus on female victimization.  This training is designed for sexual assault advocates, social workers, clinical social workers, counselors, or other professionals who are seeking deatailed information on working with male survivors of all forms of sexual trauma.

TRAINING BY:  Howard Fradkin, Ph.D., LICDC of MaleSurvivor. Dr. Fradkin has counseled over 1000 male survivors in individual, couples, group psychotherapy and weekend workshops over the course of his 28 year career as a Psychologist. As Co-Chairperson of the MaleSurvivor Weekends of Recovery, Howard has directed 34 Weekends of Recovery since 2001 for over 600 men. Dr. Fradkin has also supervised and trained hundreds of professional colleagues on the topic of psychotherapy with male survivors of sexual abuse.

Dr. Fradkin was one of the founding board members of MaleSurvivor, and currently serves as an Advisory Board Member. In 2010, Dr. Fradkin delivered the keynote address at the International MaleSurvivor Conference in New York City. He also served as President of MaleSurvivor and served on the Board of Directors for 6 years prior to developing the Weekends of Recovery program.

In November, 2010, Dr. Fradkin was invited and honored to speak as an expert on “The Oprah Winfrey Show”.

ABOUT MALESURVIVOR: MaleSurvivor has been a leader in the fight to improve the resources and support available to male survivors of all forms of sexual abuse in the US and around the globe. We are a community built upon a unique foundation of respect and mutual partnership between survivors themselves and the professionals who work with them.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER: ICESA is honored to welcome a very special keynote speaker to Indiana. Phil Saviano is a Boston clergy abuse survivor, activist, and whistleblower. He went public about his childhood abuse in late 1992, far ahead of the curve. His 1993 sex abuse lawsuit provided evidence to him that bishops in four states had protected his abuser. In 1996, determined to maintain his right to speak freely, he became the first Massachusetts plaintiff to successfully settle a case with no terms of confidentiality. His August 2001 meeting with the Boston Globe Spotlight Team is recreated in the Academy Award-winning movie, “Spotlight.”
